Questions about this journey
Small and personal: villas, tea bungalows, boutique houses and a tented camp, usually under twenty rooms. We quote the class, not the name, and we can lift the whole trip to five-star where it exists, or bring it down to three-star comfort. Ella and Hatton have no true five-star, and we say so.
No. It is for any two people who want a slow trip: honeymoons and anniversaries, yes, but also friends, mothers and daughters, and small groups who want the same pace in a bigger vehicle.
Where the line is open, the Nanu Oya to Ella stretch is, with reserved seats and the bags in the car. Services have been coming back in stages since Cyclone Ditwah in late 2025, so we confirm for your dates and otherwise drive the same valley.
Yes. From Tangalle the boat at Mirissa is about an hour and a quarter away, leaving at 6.30am, from December to April. We arrange it on one of the Tangalle days; it is an early start and a long morning at sea, so we leave it optional.
Tangalle to the airport is about three and a quarter hours. For a flight before midday we move the last night to Galle or Negombo, or add a night, and tell you the trade-off.

How it felt on the road
5 out of 5 stars
He knows all the good and beautiful places, is very flexible, thinks along with you and helps with anything you need. We always felt safe and could reach him almost immediately via the app, even outside of our trips.
From the very first moment, it felt familiar and trustworthy, and during the trip he became much more to us than just a chauffeur. ... It is really special how you can build such a lovely bond in such a short time.
In eight days, from driver to friend of our whole family! Wow! What a fantastic man. He speaks very good English and is really involved with all of us.
