Questions about this journey
Because it is the only time the whole island is dry at once. Jaffna and Wilpattu take the north-east rains from October to January; the south coast and Sinharaja side take the south-west monsoon from May. From June to September we run the same idea the other way round, with the east coast in place of the south; ask us for the summer version.
There is more than enough; the trick is leaving some of it out. Every stay has one or two planned things and the rest is yours. If you would rather have a fourth night somewhere and skip a stop, say so: this is a shape, not a timetable.
Yes, the Ella to Nanu Oya stretch, which reopened in June 2026 after Cyclone Ditwah. We book reserved seats and the car carries the bags. If the service changes for your date we drive the same valley and tell you beforehand.
Different. Tamil, Hindu, flat, hot and very friendly, with palmyra palms instead of coconut, and a history that is recent and real. The ferry to Delft Island takes an hour each way on a good sea and the island has wild ponies and a baobab. We go with a local Jaffna guide.
The standard tourist eTA allows a stay of 30 days, which covers the trip with a margin. Check the current rules and any fee waiver at eta.gov.lk before you travel; they change from year to year.

How it felt on the road
5 out of 5 stars
He knows all the good and beautiful places, is very flexible, thinks along with you and helps with anything you need. We always felt safe and could reach him almost immediately via the app, even outside of our trips.
From the very first moment, it felt familiar and trustworthy, and during the trip he became much more to us than just a chauffeur. ... It is really special how you can build such a lovely bond in such a short time.
In eight days, from driver to friend of our whole family! Wow! What a fantastic man. He speaks very good English and is really involved with all of us.
