Sri Lanka for European travellers
One overnight flight from winter into warm, green light.
From most European capitals, Sri Lanka is a single overnight flight away — close enough to reach without a marathon journey, far enough that everything on arrival feels new. It is a rare island that offers ancient cities, a hill railway, cloud-forest, leopards and a warm coast all within a compact two-week loop. English is spoken widely, the euro goes a long way, and the winter contrast is the whole point: leave the cold, land in the warm.

Questions European travellers ask us
When is the best time to travel to Sri Lanka from Europe?
December to March for the classic island — that is when the southwest coast, the hills and the cultural triangle are driest, and when the European winter makes the warmth most welcome. If you can only travel in the European summer, come between May and September and we build the trip around the east coast instead.
How long should a first trip be?
Ten to fourteen nights is ideal. It is enough to weave together the ancient cities, the tea-country train and a proper coastal finish without a rushed morning, while still fitting inside a normal European holiday allowance.
Is Sri Lanka a good winter-sun alternative to the usual long-haul spots?
We think so. For a similar flight time you get far more range than a single beach resort — culture, mountains, wildlife and coast on one small island — and with a private driver-guide the logistics stay effortless. The euro also stretches well into the kind of unhurried, tailored travel that is hard to find elsewhere.
